¡Allá tu! (2004-08, Telecinco (Spain), Endemol) - Deal or No Deal Spain

¡Hola vosotros! Today's review is of ¡Allá tú! , the old Spanish version of Deal or No Deal . I've taken the episode of 7 April 2006 to start. Our theme is something I'm sure I've heard from a French lesson once before. The pink boxes used in the show are singing the tune. Our top prize is €600,000, but half of that goes to a phone-in competition, and both the contestant and phone-in winnings are taxed. Jesús Vázquez ('z' in Spain is pronounced "th", i.e. "Hesoos Vahthketh" is a close English approximation of pronunciation) is nuestro conductor  today. We meet our 22 players. These include Álvaro from Toledo, Castilla-La Mancha, Ginés from the Balearic Islands, whose sexy pose is immediately overshadowed by Juán from Badajóz, Extremadura and his classy shades, the amicable Óscar from Málaga, Andalusia, although Elena from Segovia, Castile y León's all-black style suits her. We finish with Javi from Vizcaya in the Basque Country and María...

Colorado (ITA, December 1997)

COLORADOOOOOOOO! Italian television has a reputation for being very hit-and-miss. Bad stuff, such as Passaparola , which we recently watched, gets taken all around the world, but Avanti un Altro  goes nowhere. Shame. Today's review is on Colorado , an Italian format from the late 90s, which was a huge flop in its home country. But it's worth watching just for the banging Abba-y theme tune. They seem to have mixed up Colorado with Oaxaca, looking at the titles. Or probably New Mexico. Our episode happens to be a 1997 Christmas special, so there's all the festive duties before we introduce our contestants. More of that theme too. Lovely. In Colorado , the white team, the yellow team, the reds and the greens, all play a series of minigames to make it to the "Table of Conquest". There's a special hello to la Rina de la Pyramide - the Pyramid Queen, who seems to be some sort of pantomime villain. She doesn't like Christmas. Boo. She stays as a commanding pres...

Welcome to the World of Game

Hello and welcome to the World of Game. This is a blog where I will be showing you game shows from all around the world. It'll be rather fun, showing you snippets of various cultures. Starting November 5 and every Friday from then on, I will be introducing you to a new game show in a certain country. It'll be good. I speak a load of languages so will also be able to introduce you to that country's culture and lifestyle. It'll be fun. 5 November I'll be reviewing Сиавка  ("Stavka"), the Russian version of Shafted . It will be 20 years that day since the premiere of the truly awful British original. I'll see you then.
